One global pandemic later, here we are, bloody but unbowed. As the world cataclysmed around us with the struggles of many ills in our society, as well as so much more, it has been a tough year for so many people. We are extremely grateful to still be able to provide a serene and idyllic escape to wild and wonderful West Virginia. One of our most recent guests was an emergency room nurse, and we were honored to host them and provide them with some peace and calm.
With that being said, we are super excited to finally announce our expansion with our second house opening to the public on June 1st 2021! This second house, The Black Oak will enable us to share this wonderful place with even more of you awesome folks. With the experience of our first house under our belt, and with your feedback, we decided to make the second house a completely “in-ground” house built on piers with an extra big deck that makes it easy to hang out with the whole crew over meals or a game.
A customized hot tub is indeed the cherry on the sundae, as we had it custom built – it is almost 5(!) feet deep, nearly double the depth your usual hot tub, and it is quite a special experience to truly submerge yourself under the stars. String lights illuminate the outdoor experience, which also has a fire pit and Weber grill, and are much appreciated by folks both young and old.
"Giant oak trees... have deep root systems that can extend two-and-one-half times their height. Such trees rarely are blown down regardless of how violent the storms may be."

Why do we call our majestic new house the Black Oak? Well, you guys voted for it (be sure and follow us on Instagram for updates), and it also seemed significant, given that our first house is called the Acorn. Mighty oaks grow from acorns, indeed, and we look forward to planting a “forest” in Lost River for you all to enjoy and create lasting memories.
What is next for us?! We have decided to put house #3 on hold for the time being. The costs of construction materials are astronomical right now, and we will wait for things to settle down. While we wait, we will continue to work to improve the trails and land, as well as install more shared amenities. We also have an exciting collaboration planned with Sorenson Communications, and we’re looking forward to sharing more about that soon as well!
Have a wonderful summer, everyone… and go rent the Black Oak! You won’t regret it!
