Property Details

This is a completely custom built tiny house that was completed in 2019, so it is very new. This special place is on 23 acres of forest and is right by the Lost River state park.

A full kitchen with a toaster oven (it's a tiny house - full sized oven isn't going to fit!) is included along with two comfortable beds and a full bathroom.

Deaf owned, operated, and built. There is swimming and boating (bring your own, no motor boats) at nearby Trout Pond. The state park (less than 3 miles away) has lots of hiking, an Olympic sized swimming pool, athletic facilities, a playground, and picnic areas. It is beautiful, quiet, and very green.

The property is shared with another rental house that is approximately 300 yards away and is mostly blocked from view by the trees.

Welcome packages are included that have snacks, breakfast and beverages!

The cabin was amazing, a small house that looked exactly like the photos and descriptions
It is private and has amazing views, it was really good
The only thing that i would point out is there are no cups in the cabin but apart from that it was amazing
We had a few small problems and in no time jane replied and helped us with everything
I really recommend going there for a few days away from everything!!!

Loved this getaway so much!!! The tiny house was exactly as described, very cozy and cute. Shower was hot and the welcome package was so thoughtful! The string lights only half worked and a couple of the blinds were broken; I assume it’s just the end of the season wear. We saw deer out the window one early morning and the host’s directions and recommendations were so detailed and helpful. Not a single question left unanswered before I even had a chance to ask haha. Overall really happy with this little place, I think my dog loved it even more than me haha!

What a beautiful place to stay the night! Very peaceful and beautiful hikes near by. Safe for my dog and I to walk and drive around. The road up to the house is definitely not for everyone but my Honda Civic made it without a problem.
Can't wait to come back again!

Couldn’t have asked for a better experience for a night out of the city. The tiny home is very comfortable and nicely done. Don’t be intimidated by the gravel drive way - it really isn’t that steep and I have a small hatchback. I will be back here again for sure 🙂

This cabin was beautiful, cozy, and fully equipped for our ‘mini moon’ adventure off of the grid - yet close to great farmers markets, state parks, and cute towns. Jane was wonderful, responded quickly, and was super accommodating with our changes in arrival & departure. We cant wait to plan our next trip! 🙂

We loved our stay at the acorn. We have never stayed in a tiny house before, and now that we have, we would surely do it again. The location was beautiful and waking up to the ridge line was truly magical. Having a French press coffee with beans from Sonoma County was a lovely surprise. The bed was comfortable, and the kettle on the stove was charming. We hope to come back next year and stay two nights, so that we can really enjoy it. I would certainly recommend it to others. We did not get a chance to use the fire pit, but we are avid campers and I’m sure if we had used it, it would’ve really added a nice element to our stay. We were only in for one night and traveling and I have to say, it was such a great place to mentally and emotionally regroup deep in the woods. I’m really glad I booked it!

Will return 🙂

Great tiny home with nice views. Right next to Lost River Park. The frisbee golf course on site requires some experience as it’s a bit steep. The welcome package was great too!

This is perfect place to get away. The uphill drive is intimidating, but the host gives you some helpful tips to conquer it. Would recommend having AWD or 4x4, but two Honda Civics made it up. I would highly recommend anyone staying here. This was perfect for us to getaway and just relax and take in nature. Our dog Rocky also loved it to, and he was happy they had dog bowls for him since we forgot ours. The welcome gift was so cute. We are already planning for our next stay. This place is beyond cute and perfect. 20/10 would stay again

We loved this spot! Great place with everything you need for a private getaway in the wilderness. Perfect place to disconnect and hang out. We were really impressed with the disc golf course, quite the set up! Kitchen is was well stocked and had plenty of room and n the fridge for a long weekends worth of food. Water was hot long enough for a decent shower and the bed was super comfy. We absolutely loved waking up to that view. The other house on the property is just far enough away where you still have your own privacy. 10/10 would recommend!

You’ll need an AWD or a car with a sport mode! ..: but once you arrive, you’ll never want to leave….honestly. It’s quiet, peaceful, spacious for two! Stayed for a weekend and only went outside for a slow stroll that Saturday. If you need a break from the city sounds, this is your place to be. Definitely pre-pack meals because you’ll just want to be there grilling and s’moring it up! A nice beautiful scenic ride from the DC area as long as you have an iPhone and leave your maps activated 🙂 I’m glad I decided to book this cabin over an Instagram ad… honestly. Just book and see for yourself.

This tiny house was so charming and cozy. Equipped with just about everything you could need! We came in on a snowy night, so be sure to have 4WD/AWD. Highly recommend venturing to Big schloss for an amazing view (challenging hike) and blackwater falls/Douglas falls (less challenging, but spectacular views).

The Acorn was an amazing place to stay!! My husband and I drove out for the weekend to relax away from work and loved it. The bed was so comfortable, the space was perfect for two people, and we thoroughly enjoyed the fire pit. We even got to wake up to a surprises 3" of snow blanketing everything our last morning! Definitely hope to be back.

A true jem! This tiny house was the perfect place for a quiet weekend away from D.C. It was very cozy and warm despite a few especially cold days. The kitchen was well-stocked and easy to cook in. The beds were very comfortable and the view out the master bed window was gorgeous. We brought our dog and he loved exploring the nearby hiking trails at Lost River State Park with us. The host was easy to communicate with and even allowed us to move our dates up due to a big snowstorm forecast on the last night of our stay. The only down side was that the water pipe to the house froze due to the extremely cold temperatures, so the host supplied us with bottled water. Even with that hiccup, we had a truly wonderful stay, and we're definitely coming back!

The Acorn was very cozy. My boyfriend and I went up for a brief two night stay before the holidays to relax without family.

We packed enough food so we wouldn’t have to leave in case of bad weather and I would definitely say that’s the way to go. The fridge and freezer is plenty big for a few days worth of food!

There is a view of the neighboring Airbnb from the kitchen but they are angled away. The bedroom is private but we kept the blind down at night. The shower was hot and the fire pit was a nice touch. The only thing to remember is to bring slippers! The floor can get cold because it’s above ground.

Everything we could need for cooking was provided! Plenty of pans and dishes. There’s a French Press and a regular coffee pot and a tea kettle.

I would HIGHLY recommend bringing a AWD car- I am the type of person who has a lot of confidence in my RWD car but I know it would have had a very hard time going up the gravel hill to the property.

We are thinking about making this an annual tradition! Thanks so much for being such great hosts!

We had a wonderful stay at the Acorn! It's been a rough year for my preschooler, so we had a mommy/son two-day trip and Jane's tiny cabin was perfect. We were able to have lots of outdoor adventures but also had a lots of fun in the cabin. The kitchen was perfectly stocked to make a few simple meals and we loved everything in the goodie bag! I'd love to come back to the Acorn for a week by myself - and have already booked a stay at Black Oak for the whole family 🙂

This tiny house is big on comfort and stellar views! Jane thought of everything and we had all the comforts available during our stay. The views alone are worth the trip! The Fall colors were stunning and the stars felt closer at the Acorn. Communication was clear and the tiny house was clean and inviting. It was a phenomenal getaway that allowed us prime relaxation. Our dog loved the ability to explore and get some fresh air and space! We’d love to stay again!

This is an amazing tiny home that lets you just get away from it all!

The bed was amazingly comfortable - I could lay there all day and stare out the window at the view! It was so cozy!!

The set up was perfect - plenty of pots, pans, plates, bowls, glasses, and utensils to fix whatever you need! For those that grill, there’s plenty to do that along with the grill. I didn’t need it so can’t comment just know there was plenty of stuff to cook up a good steak if someone wanted!

The shower was amazing! Water pressure was great and I didn’t expect it to get as hot as it did! The evenings got chilly and when I finally forced myself to get up from sitting on the deck, the hot shower cut right through the chill!

I wanted to lay out in the hammock but my dog wouldn’t sit still long enough - too old and uncoordinated to get in and out of it - but sitting out in the chairs while she sniffed around was more than enough. And every now and then, she would calm down just enough to lay down on the elevated dog bed provided.

The property is amazing…plenty of places to walk around and let your dog get some good sniffs and check pee-mail. The wifi worked flawlessly so while you’re at the house you’re connected to the world. There is no cell service for a few miles around….but that was ok. I only needed it in the evenings when I wanted to post pics on social media!

I can’t wait to go back!!

Great little tiny cabin in the woods! I stayed here with my small dog during the week in October. Really lovely in West Virginia this time of year and the location is close to many hiking trails that were virtually empty during the week. The wifi worked great and I was able to do a few Zoom calls for work with no problem. The little kitchenette is basic but great and well stocked, and just takes a little planning to put together meals. The only small downside was that the driveway is VERY steep for my 2WD Mazda 3. I needed to drive down the road and come back down the other way to get a bit of a 'running start' each time. We made it up each time but it was a little scary and I would not want to try at night or in inclement weather. Otherwise, it was a great stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Acorn Tiny home! A major bonus was we were able to bring our dog. We enjoyed grilling, sitting by the fire, exploring the area and taking a much needed break. Lost River State Park is very close with multiple trails for hiking. We decided to hike up to the overlook. If you decide on this - take the White Oak Trail which is right next to the horse stables within LR State Park. There is parking along the road. You can see 5 counties from the top and it was well worth the hike. The tiny home itself was well constructed, more spacious than we thought for the two of us and our dog, fully functioning toilet/shower/sink. Beds and linens were very comfortable and clean. The outdoor space was a plus. We used the solostove for a fire. Nice deck, picnic table and hammock to add to the space. They even supplied a kuranda outdoor bed for our dog. It was very quiet and dark at night. The driveway to get in is exactly as the owners described..their advice which is best..don't go too slow when driving up. Great trip and we would definitely come back! Thanks again for a great weekend away in a new area. P.S. Stop at the Lost River Trading Post in Wardensville

Our stay at The Acorn was relaxing, easy and as stress-free as we had hoped it would be. We really enjoyed our stay and were impressed by the location, the well-thought-out amenities (especially the fabulous guest goodie bag!) and how clean everything was. Our favorite was waking up to the breathtaking view of the surrounding woods from the huge window framing the bed. It felt especially magical in the early morning mist after a heavy rainfall the night before. This place is a true gem! We hope to come back and stay at The Acorn again soon.

This place was everything we hoped. The property is beautiful, the home is clean and well designed, and the outdoor grill and fire pit made cooking really fun! The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed, including a spice rack with great variety. We loved the design and that it had a full size shower and flushing toilet.

The tiny house getaway was great! It was private and very modern. It had everything we needed. We were so pleased with the overall quality of location (comfortable, several outdoor sitting areas and awesome grill on site), speedy responses from the owners when we had questions that came up, and nearby hiking opportunities, etc. It was such an easy drive from home - we've never been to that part of WV and it was wonderful. No complaints at all 🙂 We will definitely be back!

What a hidden gem! The house was private and luxurious. Equipped with everything you need, including an XL freezer, smoothie maker and several outdoor sitting areas. Responses to my questions were quick and friendly. Nearby Lost River State Park has many uncrowded hiking trails. And just 2 1/2 hours from Rockville, MD!!!! Can’t wait to visit again.

09/03/2019

We really enjoyed our stay. I took my 3 children (11 and under) and it was the perfect size for the four of us! We enjoyed the views and the location. We never cooked a single thing inside the cabin, we used the gas grill and the burner on the side which made cooking meals together fun and enjoyable. The WiFi was fantastic and the only way to make cell phone calls for me with Verizon for about a 20 minute radius, which was also a pleasant and peaceful surprise. Lost River State Park just down the road has a ton of activities for both adults and the children, the horseback riding and days at Smoke Hole Caverns being the overall favorites of the children. The beds were very comfortable and the comforters and sheets were fantastic. The cabin was super clean and well stocked with almost every necessity. Thank you for the great memories!

Staying at the tiny house on the 23-acre land was more than just awesome! We were impressed by how well-stocked the tiny house was, including the kitchen utensils. The space was just perfect and it was a lot of fun making meals in that space. It definitely was worth spending a few nights there.

"Highly recommended!"

07/02/2019

Our family of four had a very pleasant stay at the Lost River Vacations tiny cabin! The drive from DC was easy and scenic; we stopped at Luray Caverns along the way which was awesome. The cabin has everything you could need and is attractively designed and super quiet, surrounded by woods. Upper bunk was tight for two young adult sons but we had a lovely time. We brought firewood from home and had a wonderful fire in the fire pit enjoying the starry sky above. Plenty to do in the area--hikes and swimming at nearby Lost River State Park. Highly recommended!
